Steps
- Click 'Menu'
- Choose 'Options'
- Click 'Audio'
Test playback:
- Click 'Test playback'. The progress bar in the player moves forward and you should hear the message. Should the volume be too low please move the volume bar in the middle of the player to the right.
- If you don't hear anything, check that your speakers / headset are connected and turned on.
- If you still can not hear anything or if the volume is too low: click on 'Speaker setup...' and adjust the settings.
- End test by clicking on 'Stop playback'.
Test recording:
- Choose the microphone from the list. If you are not sure, select 'Default'.
- Click 'Test recording'. Speak into your microphone. The progress bar in the player moves forward. Sound level indicatess appear next to the button 'Stop recording'.
- Only hollow bars are shown: no microphone available or microphone level set too low.
- several full bars appear: the microphone is properly adjusted.
- A red bar appears frequently on the right: the microphone level is set too loud.
- Choose 'Stop recording'
- Adjust the settings by clicking on 'Microphone setup...' and then
- finetune by adjusting the boost factor. Note that SAM amplifies the recorded sounds of the microphone. Therefore system microphone volume may not be set to zero. If set to 1, the SAM does not use amplification. Important: the boost factor does not replace proper system microphone level settings.
- Click 'Test recording' to test the chosen boost factor.
- Adjust the boost factor if necessary.
Recording quality
If you are not satisified with the recording quality, please check if you can increase the sensitivity of your microphone in the Windows audio settings. If this does not help, consider replacing your microphone or sound card. The quality of your sound card and microphone are critical for good audio recording results.
