Problems playing back a voice message

When you have problems playing back a voice message or audio file with Speak-A-Message, please first check the following:

Is it possible to play back other messages?

You can test this by selecting another message in Speak-A-Message and playing it back, or by opening your Windows Media Player (click Start..Run, type mplayer2, click OK). Select any uncorrupted, good audio file from your computer or download a sound file from the internet (e.g. from our sound section) and click the play button.

If you can not hear anything, please verify that your speakers are turned on and connected to your computer. Check your audio settings, make sure that the volume is not turned down (your speakers may have their own volume knob). If you have problems with Windows Media Player, please consult the Microsoft Knowledge Base, article KB 306317

Audio files play back in Windows Media Player but not in Speak-A-Message

If you can not play any audio files in Speak-A-Message, but can play them in Windows Media Player, then please turn the volume button in Speak-A-Message all the way to the right. If you still can not hear anything on all audio files within Speak-A-Message, please contact Speak-A-Message support.

Other audio files play back in Speak-A-Message, but this one voice message does not play back.

If this is the case, the file you have received may be corrupted. Please contact the sender. If you downloaded the file from the web or if you are using webmail, please make sure to fully download the file to your hard drive first, before opening it.

Microphone problems

Audio hardware differs signifcantly from computer to computer. There are many potential problems with a microphone. Please follow the instructions in the help file that comes with Speak-A-Message first. On some audio input devices, the sampling rate may lead to problems: Selecting 42100 Hertz or 21050 Hertz may fix these problems. Please contact Speak-A-Message support if you are not able to get your microphone to work. Another alternative is to purchase a USB microphone. This bypasses your soundcard and therefore eliminates compatibility problems of a particular soundcard.
